This chutney is to be used only for purging the bowels during your Ayurvedic Living DetoxTM. Take 2-4 Tbs of chutney with dinner. You will learn to adjust the dosage over time to achieve the desired purge of 4-5 loose bowel movements. Bowels should be loose but not diarrhea.
Ingredients ∙ 8oz boiling water ∙ 4 dried prunes ∙ 1 tamarind pod (preferably “Thai Tamarind” which you can get at Asian grocery store or online) ∙ 1 tsp each of ghee and olive oil ∙ 1 tsp salt ∙ 1 tsp Garam Masala (spice mix from grocery store)
Directions ∙ Remove tamarind from shell and soak along with prunes in enough boiled water to cover. Soak for 30 minutes, then remove seeds and excess tamarind fiber and discard them. Do not discard water, reserve it for adding to the mixture during blending process if it becomes so dry it will not blend. ∙ Heat ghee in small frying pan and then add Garam Masala, sautéing until aromatic ∙ Remove from heat, add olive oil and place in blender with all remaining ingredients or use hand-immersion blender to blend and make a paste. If too thick, add a little of the reserved tamarind/prune-soaking. Add additional sweetener/dates to taste.
